What we collect, how your photos are handled, and the choices you have.

This policy explains what information PlantIDOnline (“we”, “us”) collects when you use https://plantidonline.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. In short: you can identify plants without an account, your photos are never published, and we do not sell your data.

Who we are

Information we collect

• Photos you upload. Used only to produce the identification you asked for. Before upload, the photo is re-saved in your browser, which removes embedded location (GPS) and camera data.
• Optional notes. Anything you type in the notes box (for example symptoms or where you found the plant) is used for that identification only.
• Usage limit data. To keep the free daily limit fair, we record a count of identifications per day linked to your IP address. This count is deleted after [24 HOURS / 7 DAYS].
• Feedback. If you tell us whether a result was right, we store that answer and the plant name, not your photo.
• Technical data. Like most websites, our server keeps standard logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, time) for security and to fix errors.
• Emails you send us. Your email address and message, so we can reply.

We do not ask for your name, and you do not need an account to use the identifier.

How your photos are handled

• Your photo is sent securely (HTTPS) to our identification service, which analyses it and returns the result.
• We do not publish your photo or turn it into a public page.
• We do not keep your photo on our servers after the result is returned.
• Please do not upload photos that show people, faces, house numbers or other personal details.

How we use information

• To identify the plant in your photo and show the result.
• To apply the free daily limit and prevent abuse.
• To measure and improve accuracy, using feedback you choose to give.
• To keep the site secure and working, and to reply to your messages.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site — such as our hosting provider and the identification service that processes your photo — and only as needed to provide the service. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies to make the site work and to remember your cookie choice. Non-essential cookies are only set if you agree. See our Cookie Policy.

How long we keep information

• Photos: not stored after the result is returned.
• Daily usage counts: [24 HOURS / 7 DAYS].
• Server logs: up to [30] days.
• Emails: as long as needed to handle your request, then deleted within [12] months.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK or state privacy laws in the US), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to object to or limit how we use it, and to complain to your data protection authority. Email [email protected] with “Privacy request” in the subject and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use HTTPS and limit access to our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted on the homepage.
